Overview
CodePulse is a macOS app that tracks AI coding assistant usage through a menu bar overview and a separate analysis window. It follows a local-first principle: session data is stored and processed on your Mac, and conversation contents and source code are not uploaded.
Data Collection & Use
CodePulse is designed with a privacy-first principle:
- Local Parsing: The app reads supported coding-tool records you authorize and processes session messages, tool calls, token usage, and project information on your device.
- Local Storage: Session and statistics caches are stored in the local application support directory. The Mac App Store version uses Application Support/CodePulse/cache.sqlite3 inside its app sandbox. Session contents are not uploaded. The cache also includes aggregate statistics and pricing calculation evidence.
- Network Access: The app retrieves public model prices and required public exchange-rate references. Enabled account connections also use the relevant credentials to query quota, usage, or balances and, where applicable, refresh access tokens. These requests do not include conversation contents or source code.
Permissions
CodePulse accesses local files, credentials, or the network depending on the features you use:
- File and Credential Access: Local session directories are accessed with user authorization. Depending on connection type, quota features read existing local credentials, macOS Keychain, or authorized IDE files, or use credentials supplied by the user.
- Network Access: Used for public pricing updates and enabled account connections’ authentication, token refresh, and quota or balance queries. Antigravity may also query a local service on 127.0.0.1.
You can manage directory access, enable or disable account connections, and clear local caches in the app. When removing directory access, you can retain or delete that source’s local history. Disabling an account connection does not automatically delete existing statistics. Manually saved secrets are stored in macOS Keychain; environment credentials are read only. Deleting a manual connection removes its Keychain credentials but does not modify external credential files or environment variables.
Data Export
CodePulse exports statistics as JSON or CSV and saves usage receipts as transparent PNG files. Files are saved to your chosen location and are not automatically uploaded by the app.
Third-Party Services
The app retrieves reference prices from supported providers’ official public materials and the LiteLLM catalog on GitHub, and public ECB exchange-rate references where needed. Optional online connections submit authentication information to the relevant services, including Anthropic/Claude, OpenAI/Codex, Google/Antigravity, Z.AI/BigModel, Kimi, MiniMax, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, and Moonshot, to query account quota, usage, or balances. JetBrains AI quota is read from authorized local IDE files. Providers receive the authentication and network connection information needed to fulfill requests, subject to their respective policies. CodePulse does not upload conversation contents or source code to these services or a CodePulse server, and does not integrate advertising services, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking tools.
